I sure hope not!
So, I've told you about my work-related stuff. Now for more-personal stuff. I had a mentor when I was in high school who started out as a church leader. We really clicked and ultimately, I probably wouldn't have gone to a university if not for her help. I've wanted to "pay it forward" since then. A few weeks ago, I found this group where you mentor kids with the intent of helping them get to college. Perfect! After I pass the background checks, I'll get to become friends with a fourth grade girl whose family speaks Spanish! :D Maybe she'll help me practice? I've already got a few cool ideas, like cooking/baking "dates," park visits, bicycle rides, etc. Of course, this will all be greatly influenced by her interests!
Then, I found an old email from 2005 about being a Court Appointed Special Advocate, which is something else I want to do. So, I signed up for that, too! You research a foster child's life: primarily by speaking with the adults who care for them. Then, you help a judge decide what's best for the child. I will have to do a LOT of research and even then I hope I make the best decisions. I'm sure those decisions are rarely easy to make. Worthy cause, though.
There's one more post coming up about what I'm up to lately! (Making up for lost time!)
